MEMBERSHIP

St. James Pony Club is perfect for horse lovers ages 7 to 77!  Mounted and unmounted lessons and rallies (team shows) are held in various locations throughout the year. Ownership of a horse is not required for membership.

PONY CLUB ACTIVITIES

Monthly unmounted meetings are held fall through spring to help increase members' horse knowledge and prepare for rally season and certification ratings. In the summer, some members choose to attend regional camps, rallies (team competitions: Dressage, Show Jump, Eventing, Games to name a few) and if qualified, some attend national rally in KY, NC or CO!  All members are encouraged to attend Regional Quiz Rally (test of knowledge)!

A parent should attend ALL Pony Club meetings. Parents of any members under 13 years old are required to attend when child is participating in mounted activities. Pony Club requires parental support for all activities, and equine knowledge is not necessary.

EQUIPMENT

The key word in Pony Club is safety. Pony Clubbers are required to wear ASTM/SEI approved headgear and boots with low heels.  Rulebooks detail what is acceptable tack / apparel for horse and rider. Safety inspections are required for all mounted activities. The horse must be at least 5 years old.

RATINGS

Our Pony Club is divided into groups based on equestrian ability, horse management and veterinary knowledge. We offer at least two Certifications a year to test skills. The rating levels are D1, D2, D3, C1, C2, C3, HB, B, HA and A. The D1 Pony Clubber is expected to have control of her/his horse at the walk and trot, but no jumping is required. On the other end of the spectrum, an A Pony Clubber will have acquired the skills to be able to train almost any horse, and have the knowledge to run an equestrian facility. Go to the US Pony Club website for detailed information about the requirements for each level. One can see the progression of horsemanship skills acquired per level.

Success in Pony Club is not about being better than somebody else...it’s about improving yourself and encouraging others!
